FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Microblading is done over the course of two appointments. The first is your initial procedure, and is when we will do the majority of your brows. This appointment will last 2 – 3 hours, depending on your specific case and extent of missing hair or re-shaping needed. The second appointment is commonly referred to as your follow-up or touch-up appointment. This appointment will last about 1.5 hours, and is used as a perfecting procedure. We will perfect anything you want changed and fill in anywhere the microbladed strokes have healed lighter than others.
Pain is rated as none to mild discomfort by most clients. Remember that our pre-procedure instructions are for your safety, as well as to minimize discomfort, sensitivity, and bleeding; so they should be strictly followed. During the procedure, your brow area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic and your technician will check in with you on your comfort level throughout. While everyone responds differently to anesthetic and pain, your technician will make every possible effort to keep you completely comfortable.
The initial healing process takes approximately 10 – 14 days, with full color setting in over the course of 1 month. Right after your appointment, slight redness isn’t uncommon. Over the next 7 days, you’ll experience a slightly darker color and very light scabbing. Within a few days of the light scabbing, it will begin to reduce and go away quickly. It is important never to pick, scratch, scrub, or pull at the brow area during the first 10 – 14 days, as this can remove pigment and affect the healing process. For the first month following your initial appointment or touch-up, you will also want to be careful with products, sun, exfoliants, etc around your brows.
Touch-up or follow-up appointments can be done 4 – 8 weeks after your initial procedure. This appointment cannot be scheduled sooner than 4 weeks after your initial procedure, due to healing process and the risk of scar tissue formation if we attempt the touch-up too soon. Six to eight weeks is the ideal timing for a touch-up.
Yes! At your touch-up, your technician will analyze how your skin healed, how the pigment healed and what areas accepted the procedure better than others. None of this information can be obtained without you first going through the process to see how your body reacts. Once your technician has evaluated your healed brows, she can now perfect your brows based on your own healed result and what you like or dislike. Color, thickness, density, etc can all be adjusted as needed to give you the best possible brows!
Typically, microblading will last 1 – 3 years. This timeframe varies largely based on your skin type, your lifestyle, and skincare routine. Your technician will go over recommendations to keep your brows looking the best they can for the longest period of time. It is always recommended that an annual touch-up is done to keep your brows fresh and free from fading.
There are many factors that can contribute to an individual being a good candidate for microblading. Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed, as everyone’s skin type will hold pigment and break it down at different rates. Please discuss your skin type and any concerns before undergoing the procedure. See the list below for factors that may make you ineligible for the procedure:
- Current use of Accutane, blood thinners, certain heart medications, and other medications associated with autoimmune disorders may make you ineligible.
- If you have diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or certain heart conditions, a doctor’s note may be required to undergo the procedure.
- History of keloid scarring may make you ineligible.
- You must not have had Botox, a sunburn, or chemical peels within the past 2 weeks.
- Must not be allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine.
- If you are nursing or pregnant, AZ Brow Bar will not perform a microblading procedure. While it may ultimately be safe for you and baby, we choose to eliminate the risk that it could be. We are happy to schedule your appointment for after you give birth and/or discontinue nursing.
[AZ Brow Bar reserves the right to refuse service to anyone we deem not suitable for the procedure, for any reason. Your technician has your best interest in mind and will inform you right away if there is a reason you may not be suitable or if you are ineligible for this procedure.]
Microblading will fade and lighten over time. Within 12 – 18 months, most need a color boost to keep brows looking their best. Factors such as sun exposure, skincare, health conditions, chemical peels, skin type, etc will effect how your brows heal and fade over time. You will need to inform healthcare professionals about having microblading if you are undergoing a chemical peel, an MRI, or laser treatments on the face.
Your technician will take all proper precautions to ensure a safe procedure is performed (sterile equipment, new needles, etc). If your pre- and post-procedure instructions are strictly adhered to, there is very little risk of complication. Allergic reactions to pigment are rare, but patch test are always available for those who desire one. We will always encourage a patch test 7 days before the procedure if you are highly sensitive to gold, silver, nickel, hair dye, or an unusual amount of topical skincare and makeup products.
Like any other beauty service, we recommend doing your research before booking your appointment to be sure your technicians style is one you like and would want on yourself. Additionally, every effort will be made to make sure your brows are the shape, color and thickness you desire. The entire procedure is a team effort between you and your technician, and will require realistic expectations, as well as open communication, to achieve the best result. You will work together to agree on an outline before any microblading is done, so there should be no reason to dislike the result, should you communicate your feelings to your technician. If for some reason you do not love your final result, the pigment will fade away over time if you do not undergo any additional touch-ups.
